The tourism on Zlatibor originates in 1893 when Aleksandar Obrenovic, the King of Serbia, stayed on Zlatibor. Since then, the tourism on this mountain is in constant expansion.
The mountain lays in the central part of Serbia on the main road Belgrade-Montenegrin coast, 230 km away from Belgrade and 25km from Uzice. The average altitude is 1000m, and the highest peaks are Tornik (1496m) and Cigota (1422m).
The mediterranean and continental climates create the conditions for "rose of winds" to blossom right above Zlatibor. These currents enable a successful treatment and recovery from many respiratory and hart diseases and, in particular, thyroid gland and anemic disorders.
In addition to health acquiring, Zlatibor is a favorite mountain of top sportsmen and a place for their quality trainings. Many sport competitions of workers, students and youth are held during the year. For this purpose, in addition to natural fields, up-to-date sportive facilities have been constructed such as sports hall, tennis courts, football pitches, opened and closed swimming pool, etc.
The urban center of Zlatibor is a right place for your exciting night life. During the day, you can enjoy in one of many open air cafe, restaurants, and pastry shops.

ZLATIBOR REGION
You can improve your stay on Zlatibor making one-day excursions. Visiting any of the locations can be a unique event, mixture of rest and pleasure, and also a possibility for a recreation hike, riding, tour by car, coach or sleigh depending on the season and your needs.

The National park Tara is founded in 1981. It is located near river Drina, 25km from Zlatibor. Main reasons that made Tara a national park are: natural vegetation of Pancic’s omorika (Picea omorika Pancic) and preserved rich forest communities. Tourist locations are: Kaluderske bare and Mitrovac.
National park Tara is included as a candidate to UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage list for its exceptional nature and cultural inheritance.

Murtenica, former "haiduk mountain" is one of the most interesting locations known for its vegetation. You can spend an equally pleasant day if you choose to visit Crni Rzav canyon which slopes are covered with a rich thick forest.

If you choose to see Tornik you will need some more courage and good physical condition, but the effort will be surely justified. From the very peak you can see Avala on the north, Durmitor on south, and Bosnian Mountains on west, over Drina River.

Gostilje village – Gostilje has around fifty households which have a certificate for house rental. Your kind hosts will gladly show you their water mills and one of the biggest waterfalls in Serbia located in the heart of untamed nature.

Potpecka pecina (Potpecka cave) is located in village Potpec, 14 km from Uzice towards Belgrade. The part adapted for visitors is 555m long, and the monumental cave entrance is in the form of horseshoe. The entrance is 50m high, 16m wide and presents the biggest cave entrance in Serbia. Under the cave there is a fish pond of Californian trout. After you visit the cave, you should not miss to visit Zlakusa, a village famous by ceramics manufacture in a traditional way.

Stopica pecina (Stopica cave) is in a group of the biggest caves in Serbia. The cave features easy accessibility, underground river – the source of life, spacious interior with tourist path, openings on ceilings, a mysterious entrance to the cave, romantic centennial forest … The cave consists of several speleological entities.

The Open-Air Museum "Old Village", Sirogojno, preserves a tradition of material and spiritual heritage of a Serbian village. The unique exhibit of old village homesteads presents approximately 50 original Zlatibor log cabins with over 2000 displays. The museum is a member of the Association of European Open-Air Museums since 1990.

Zlatibor region also offers you the amazing Sargan Eight on Mt. Tara, a narrow-gauge railroad tour by steam locomotive. This narrow gauge line used to connect Uzice and Visegrad through mountain curve Sargan between Tara and Zlatibor Mt. Within Sargan Eight’s tourist offer there is a high rating motel in Mokra Gora, apartment compound Jatare located at the central part of Sargan Mountain and of course, recently built ethno village of Emir Kusturica.
